I used Opals (Pipe dream ink) for the body and a texture plate was pressed into this while still warm. The wings are grungeboard which I painted embossed and highlighted. The face is paper clay cheap kids stuff actually but works real well. More grunge board and flowers were added to embellish along with some braid that had a nice fringe too it. Overall it was fun to make which is the important thing.

Old Wall Paper

This is a technique not me using old wall paper but that you can do also.

This is really simple, swipe embossed cardstock with dye inks spritz with water. For the circle card I used a circle cutter and for the other two I used the sizzix top notch die to cut and make the cards.

The base of the card is double of the easel panel. To make fold cardstock in half and cut out (making sure there is a join on top) fold the top half in half again, this is where you will attach the panel. You can use any size or shape as long it is symmetrical, this makes it easy to fold in half.

Skater Boi

I made these two cut birthday cards for my nephew, one from me the other from his parents. The card on the left is a spinner card and uses coins as a weight which allows the skater to do three sixties off his skate ramp. The card on the right is a ribbon slider card, pull the ribbon to the right or left and the skater will slide along. Kids and teens love these types of cards as they are fun to play with. The backgrounds were created to by pressing the cuttlebug embossing plate with dye ink onto the cardstock and spritzing with water. I also spritz the slider card with blue glimmer mist. This made some very grungy backgrounds.

Journey ATC

Front Back

On Saturday I did a meet and greet with other onliners that I’m in a yahoo group with and created this ATC to swap with. I got some great ATC’s back and hopefully they liked mine. On the front I used a free stamp obtained through the Craft Stamper magazine (designed by Art Journey, so the name of the ATC is relevant) and the background is made using a text stamp and a corner flourish, some paint and some blue glimmer mist for added sparkle. Considering I did 30 over two nights (finishing up only the night before the swap) I think I did well. The back is a stamp from Cat's Life Press and it's just as nice as the front, if I had more time I would of coloured it in and done something with it. Please note I've edited out some personal details with photoshop.

Owl -resist background

I used the same embossing resist method as I did for Keep True Art Journal page, I even used the same stamp for the background image (I really like it!), the only difference is I used the credit card technique to apply the paint (brown, cream and gold) so there is a nice metallic finish to the card. I drew up the owl on scrap paper and pieced him together, cut out a branch from pre embossed brown cardstock and made the tree leaves out of scrap paper circles which where doodled on with a black pen. I finished of with a stamped Happy Birthday message, all in all I thought the card turn out good. By the way you may notice I have a bit of a thing for owls, not sure what it's about, but I do like bird images in general.

Lake’s Edge - Flag Book

Please be aware these images are based on life drawings do no check out links if you think you may be offended.

This is a true multimedia project. First the images were done all differently; the first image is a monoprint that was done from an original hand drawn sketch. The second image is a charcoal drawing and the third is a monoprint done in a different way, the drawing was done on the back of the paper so only the drawn image received ink. All images were scanned then manipulated digitally with photoshop then printed out. Found text was then incorporated into the book. The construction of the book is a flag book with black cardstock as its base. The cover is paper that was scrunched first and a small area inked with Nordic Ice Opalite pigment ink and is meant to represent the Lake’s Edge – the title of the book. Black Elastic the kind you find that joins cheep shoes was used to keep the book closed.

Follow your Heart

The background was created by randomly scraping paint with an old credit card. The different colours of blue paint were built up to form a base. Once the painted background was dry I randomly inked with the versa mark and embossed some sections with a mixture of Opals and plain embossing powder, the colours varied from white to dark blue. I then drew random lines in blue ball point pen and stamped blue lines of paint from the side of the credit card. This formed the basis of my mixed media sky. I drew up a bird house on Chinese newspaper, cut it out and attached it to the background. White paint was added to the right side for the journaling “Wherever you go, go with all your heart”. The cute bird was created with scraps of scenic route paper and the heart shape cut from red scrap. I cut out the “grass” from Basic Grey paper, added some doodling stamped a sun on scrap and finished off with an orange felt flower and rhinestones. Very fun to create.

Embossing Resist

This is a great technique and it brings back the joy of embossing which first got me hooked on rubber stamping. For the background I stamped text in black ink over a bright green with touches of blue paper. I then stamped the quarter circle sun image from Fancy Pants in versa mark and embossed in clear embossing powder. I painted over the whole thing in brown paint. Once it was near dry I wiped of the excess paint from the embossing with a damp cloth (or baby wipe) this revealed the background paper in the shape of the stamped sun image. This mixed media piece was then decorated with a birdcage and bird painted with twinkling H2O's in a similar green colour, stamped "grass" using Stampin' Up! Little pieces set in black on bright green paper. Paper flowers with rhinestones and a stitched flourish was added to finish off and the journaling "Keep true to the dreams of your Youth" was added to a label.

Purple Paper Anniversary

This was created to celebrate a first wedding anniversary, the traditional gift being flowers. I was asked to make a posy of paper flowers in the colour of purple (that being the colour of the bridesmaid dresses). Originally I was going to do a bunch of paper roses but they were hard to do in cardstock, I did end up keeping one for the bunch. I then tried to do flowers out of the scallop circle punch and couldn't decide which flower I liked the best so in the end that's how I came up with lots of different flowers. The flowers were also originally going to be on wire, but some of the flowers dropped so that’s when I brought out the skewers and painted them green. I used a bright floro green flower in the base of the can (originally a small pringles container); this covered the foam that was used to hold the skewers in place. I also used punches, stamps and embossing plates to decorate the flowers and the outside can. I made some flowers in orange to give the bunch some extra colour; the pattern paper had some purple in it so it worked well. Lastly I used some chipboard flowers, some were painted, some were inked and others were covered in paper to get the colour. Brads and rhinestones were used as flower centres.

Dare Devil Josh

This is a scrap page I done of my DS using the Kaiser range of papers and embellishments. I also added in a metal ring pull on the ribbon as a buckle, staples to "join" the photos and a metal photo turn and frame completes the page. The embellishments are kept low key, in fact unless you point them out you really don't notice them, like the black droplets in the top right corner which have been added to the dots printed on the paper or the star shaped black rhinestones added over the stars printed on the paper. The black ribbon does not look girly with the metal ring pull. This is a real teen boy's page.

40th Birthday Flowers

A friend of mine recently celebrated her 40th birthday and she was going through some hard times (not because she was turning 40) so what do you give to someone having a hard time, why flowers of course. I did a basic concertina fold out of blue pre embossed bazzill cardstock (for the sky). The heights were staggered so it allowed some of the taller flowers to sit at the back. The "grass" was punched out with a border punch, stems were either stamped (directly onto the card or onto acetate) and flowers were created from punched shapes, flowers stamps (I have loads to choose from) and chipboard and ghost shapes. I also added some rubons in the front to fill out the garden bed. Leaves were made from green ribbon ties. I added sayings to the flower centres to get the message across.

Cupcake Madness

Inside Card(left) Outside Card (right)

Cupcakes are really popular right now so I thought a cupcake card would be perfect. I wanted to make something bright, fun and funky as it represented the person I was giving the card too. The stamps I used are Hero Arts stamps and I stamped them on different coloured cardstock, cut it out and pieced them back together. They were embellished with glitter and rhinestones. I used clear acetate for the card base which was run through the cuttlebug using the Stampin' up! Manhattan Flower embossing template for some added texture. I used fozz felt hearts in bright red across the front and added some extra on the inside. The bright coloured funky ribbons were added to create extra dimension. The border stamp is Kelly Panacci Clear Stamps and it has quite a funky fun feel to it. Any way the card was well received.

Cuttlebug impressions and Art Jounalling

I have been art journalling for a while now, it allows me to use up let over materials, using up the odd embellishment, play with techniques and just express myself. This page uses a lot of techniques, but the moody background is created using the cuttlebug impression. Originally the background was made to make a teenage boy card, but I realised that the colour and print worked well as a stormy sky.

Surround Yourself Art Journal Page Materials
*Diamond Plate embossing folder
*Stampin' up! Blue Bayou dye ink
*Black Soot Distress Ink
*Flowers, Buttons, Threads and Ribbons
*Kaiser Craft Rubons
*Assorted Stamps
Once I inked up the background, I impressed the Diamond Plate with Blue Bayou ink and then cleaned up the plate and pressed again offsetting from the previous imprint with the Black soot ink. Once the background was dry I crated the "Grass" with strips of pattern paper and cardstock. The flowers have ribbon, stamped or threaded stems. Some I have even drawn in.
I created the bird with a variety of stamps, used a flow and wing die cut for the tail.
The Journalling is "Surround yourself with people who believe you can".

Cuttlebug Impressions with Scrapbooking

Pattern paper is essential to Scrapbooking but I do like to make my own, nothing beats transforming apiece of blank paper or cardstock into something totally unique. The main problem with the cuttlebug is that it has a fixed width, so while you can do a piece of cardstock 12" long, piece by piece, you can not do it 12" wide. So you have to make do with smaller pieces of cardstock.

Blossom Scrapbook Layout Materials
*Perfectly Paisley embossing plate
*Impress Garnet dye ink
*Adirondack Butterscotch dye ink
*Heidi Swapp Chipboard letters
*Assorted flowers
*Brads, buttons, rhinestones for the flower centres
*Hero Arts Friends stamp
*Fozz felt

Bella paper, Making Memories paper, cardstock
By creating my own background paper I was able to match in colours to the flowers and photos. Once I created the background with the mix of the two dye inks, I saw that the Garnet colour was more dominant in the background so I coloured the raised side with the butterscotch colour. I also ran the cardstock through the machine to get an impression, which doesn't show up much because as the cardstock dried it flatten out a bit.

Cuttlebug Impressions

I love my cuttlebug but I wanted to try something different with the embossing plates so I am stamping with them. A background colour was created with dye ink on a plastic sheet and spritz with water, the cardstock was pressed into this. The raised side of the embossing plate was inked with dye ink and pressed onto the still wet cardstock, this allowed the image to run somewhat into the background. On some of them I even then ran the plate through the machine so the impression was indented into the background. Once dry they were used for various creations.

Butterfly Card Materials

Stylized Flower embossing plate

Stampin' Up! Perfect Plum dye ink

Stampin' Up! Great Friend stamp set

Stampin' Up! Riveting stamp set

Swirl stamp unknown

Scallop Circle punch

Ribbon, black rhinestones and card stock.

Water spray bottle

I done a slight variation on the above technique, instead making the background colour on the cardstock first, I just inked the raised side of the cuttlebug embossing plate, spritz it with water then pressed the cardstock with my hands inside the plate. The colour ran enough to give the cardstock colour but still maintain the image.
